OUR PROJECTS AR IN HARMONY WITH THE UN SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS

Hasan Kılca, the Mayor of Karatay, attended as a speaker the “ UN High-Level Political Forum (HLPF) in 2021", where the United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goals are followed and reviewed on a global scale. Hasan Kılca, the Mayor, was the only speaker from Turkey in the program, which was conducted on digital platforms and attended by mayors, politicians, heads and representatives of international institutions and organizations, and many other senior bureaucrats from all over the world. Hasan Kılca talked about Karatay and the works carried out in Karatay within the scope of the UN's Sustainable Development Goals.

At the United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Summit held in 2015, the “Transforming Our World; The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development document has been accepted. The UN High-Level Political Forum (HLPF) carries out the follow-up and review of the implementation of the 17 goals and 169 targets in the said document.

Karatay Municipality, on the other hand, is one of the first three municipalities in Turkey to prepare the Voluntary Local Review (VLR) in cooperation with the Union of Municipalities of Turkey and UCLG MEWA.

Hasan Kılca, the Mayor of Karatay, was the only person from Turkey who attended as a speaker in the "Local and Regional Governments" session under the main title of "Towards the Local Common Agenda" held within the scope of the meeting of the United Nations (UN) High-Level Political Forum (HLPF) in 2021.

HASAN KILCA, THE MAYOR, TALKED ABOUT KARATAY AT THE “UN HIGH-LEVEL POLITICAL FORUM IN 2021”

 Hasan Kılca, the Mayor, talked about Karatay and the projects they carried out within the scope of the UN objectives of Karatay Municipality at the meeting conducted on digital platforms and attended by mayors, politicians, representatives of international institutions and organizations, and many senior bureaucrats from Belgium, Spain, France, Brazil, Argentina and many other countries of the world.

In his speech,  Hasan Kılca, who started by saying "I greet you from Karatay district of Konya, the city of Maulana Jalaluddin Rumi" and introduced Karatay, described it as a county where industry, tourism, agriculture, and animal husbandry are at the forefront.

OUR WORKS TO PREPARE THE VOLUNTARY LOCAL REVIEWS CONTINUE

Kılca, who Emphasized that they have been attempting to provide the best service to citizens since taking office, said, “this effort also serves the goals and objectives of the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development document. In this context, we aim to achieve global goals by attaching importance to cooperation with international organizations by establishing our Foreign Relations Department within our municipality. In this connection,  we are working to prepare a Voluntary Local Review (VLR) in cooperation with the Union of Municipalities of Turkey and UCLG MEWA. UCLG MEWA officials provided a good training to our staff on the work to be carried out with the aforementioned review in Konya. We are pleased with the observations that the VLR, which we are preparing within the framework of the participatory management approach and with the support of all our stakeholders, is in harmony with our works. We are not satisfied with this, and we want to complete the VLR in the best manner with the policies and actions we will develop and act according to the emerging picture.

Hasan Kılca, the Mayor of Karatay, who said that as Karatay Municipality, they have produced projects that will provide value to the county and contribute to the peace and ease of the citizens, also emphasized that their projects also are in harmony with the United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goals.

Hasan Kılca, the Mayor, concluded his words as follows: “We, the Karatay Municipality, provide services in many areas. However, our works on the UN Sustainable Development Goals are collected under five main headings. In this context, we have some significant works, including the fields of environment, economy, equality, and health. With two solar power plants we have brought to our county under the title of environment and renewable energy, we provide all the energy required by our municipality from these plants. We carry out the restoration and landscaping of the Obruk Khan and the Kızören Pothole next to it, which is located within the borders of our county, and we bring this area to the country's tourism. We also have some works to protect the Anatolian Wild Sheep, which is an endemic species and lives only in our county in the world. We attach importance to Zero Waste and recycling and carry out many projects in this regard. We are struggling to further develop our vision by establishing relationships with many parts of the world with the Sister City project. We are building kindergartens in our county. We have an Alzheimer's Day Care Center. We have many retired mansions. Here, we also provide opportunities for our elders to care for and socialize. Due to our works on COVID-19, we received the 'TSE Covid19 Safe Service Certificate'. We produce gluten-free products for our Celiac Patients. Therefore, we continue our efforts to attain the Sustainable Development Goals set forth by the UN. I hereby would like to invite everyone who attended the program to our Konya and Karatay. On the other hand, Mr. Jean Pierre Elong Mbassi, the Secretary-General of UCLG MEWA Africa, chaired the "Local and Regional Governments" session under the main topic of "Towards the Local Common Agenda" of the "UN High-Level Political Forum in 2021" program, thanked Hasan Kılca, the Mayor of Karatay,  for his contribution to the program and stated that the works carried out by the Karatay Municipality are projects to be appreciated and that they can be recommended to other local governments as well.”
