The restoration and landscaping work of Obruk Inn, one of the works of the Seljuk period, which is expected to be an important destination for Konya tourism, has been completed.
The construction of the Obruk Inn, located on the Konya-Aksaray highway, 70 kilometers away from the city center of Konya, dates back to the 13th century.
Obruk Inn, having an unknown epitaph, reflecting the Seljuk caravanserai architecture, takes its name from the Kızören Inn just next to it.
About two years ago, Karatay Municipality started restoration and landscaping work in the Kızören Pothole and the historical Obruk Inn, which have been declared a "Sensitive Area to be Protected" with the signature of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
The work carried out with the support of the Presidency, the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change and the Governorship of Konya was completed and the region was made ready for visits.
" WATCHING OBRUK LAKE FROM THE TERRACE OF THE INN SHALL BE A SPECIAL PLEASURE"
Hasan Kılca, the Mayor of Karatay, said that the historical building shall be one of the brand values of the district.
Kılca, who stated that the inn was demolished and destroyed over time, said, "Thankfully, we have completed the landscaping and restoration with the support of Murat Kurum, the Minister of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change. This place is 70 kilometers from the center, on the route of Konya and Cappadocia. It was a frequent destination for tourists before the pandemic, and it was a place where about 100 buses stop by every day."
Kilca stated that the region is one of the places where tourists are interested and said that they want to enrich this area even more and turn it into a beautiful place where it can be stayed, which includes the social areas and provides catering service
"The important thing here is to preserve history. Kılca, who said that they gained this building, which is about to be demolished, to tourism,” said that Kızören Pothole is also a place frequently visited by tourists”.
Kılca stated that tourists come to see these geographical and natural beauties, and noted that they are working to include this area in the UNESCO World Heritage List.
Kilca said, "We are getting ready to present a visual feast in the area that integrates with the inn and the pothole. It will be a pleasure to watch the Obruk lake from the terrace of the inn. I believe that seeing the sunrise and sunset, and the plain and the historical richness there will also add beauty."
INSCRIBED STONES OF THE HISTORICAL INN ATTRACT ATTENTION
With reference to the stones with inscriptions that attract attention on the walls of the historical inn, Kılca said, "The inscriptions on the stones have been translated into Turkish. There are very nice stories. They provide us and future generations with information about the life of the period. Soon, we will share them with the public."
