KARATAY MUNICIPALITY PROTECTS THE ENVIRONMENT WITH ZERO-WASTE PROJECTS
KILCA: WE PROTECT OUR NATURE AND CONTRIBUTE TO OUR ECONOMY WITH THE PROJECT
The "Waste Oil Storage Bank" project, initiated by the Karatay Municipality last year, continues with great success. Four thousand liters of waste oil collected in a year prevented the pollution of four million cubic meters of water with the project. On the other hand, the waste oils collected were converted into Biodiesel and contributed to the economy. Hasan Kılca, the Mayor of Karatay, said, "We continue to contribute to the economy while protecting the environment with our Zero Waste projects."
One liter of waste vegetable oil can pollute exactly one million liters of water. When the waste vegetable oil is poured into the sink, the sewage system clogs, and operating costs increase even more. When the said waste is poured into the ground, water-soluble pollutants cause groundwater pollution with precipitation. Polluted water negatively affects life in nature.
In this context, Karatay Municipality carries out the "Waste Oil Storage Box" project and pays strict attention to preventing waste oil from polluting water and soil. With the said project, Karatay citizens as well as Karatay Municipality prevent the waste oil they collect in their homes from mixing with the garbage and sewerage, and thus with nature.
FOUR THOUSAND LITERS OF WASTE VEGETABLE OIL ACCUMULATED IN THE STORAGE BANK IN 2022
4,000 liters of waste vegetable oil that could pollute 1/3 of the Altınapa Dam, which has a water collection capacity of 15 million cubic meters, was collected in waste oil storage banks placed at various points in the district due to the "Waste Oil Storage Box" project, initiated in the district last year. The collected waste oils were converted into Biodiesel after a series of processes and contributed to the economy.
ENVIRONMENTAL POLLUTION IS PREVENTED WITH THE OIL STORAGE BANK
Hasan Kılca, the Mayor of Karatay, emphasized that they perform a series of works within the scope of the Zero Waste Project and stated that they attach importance to recycling with the motto of "Environmentalist Municipality".
WE CARRY OUT VEGETABLE WASTE OIL COLLECTION PROCESSES METICULOUSLY
Mayor Hasan Kılca reminded that they have placed 50 waste oil storage boxes in the sites and public institutions in the district, and also noted that by establishing 10 Mobile Waste Disposal Centers, waste oil collection continues in these regions.
Hasan Kılca said, “We continue to serve this valuable city that we have entrusted for our future generations. While doing this, we are very sensitive to our environment and nature. Of course, the 'Zero Waste Movement, carried out under the leadership of our Ministry of Environment, Urbanization, and Climate Change, in the care of Emine Erdoğan, the precious wife of our President, has become an important awareness throughout our country. In this connection, I would like to thank Emine Erdoğan and Murat Kurum, who is our Minister of Environment, Urbanization, and Climate Change and who is our fellow citizen. We, the Karatay Municipality, also attach great importance to Zero Waste projects in which environmental pollution is prevented, wastes are recycled without garbage and this is brought into the economy. In this context, we collected four thousand liters of waste oil throughout our district, due to our 'Waste Oil Storage Box' project, which we started last year. In this way, waste oils were prevented from harming the environment, and we also converted the collected waste oils into biodiesel and contributed to the economy. Therefore, we continue to work on our solutions for the future by acting respectfully to the environment and being sensitive to social responsibilities. I would also like to thank all my fellow countrymen who contributed to us in this respect”.
